When I started out, I didn't have a choice as to what I could use and what I couldn't as a tool. I was a Teen Witch. I pretty much had to make due with what I could scrounge. This is something that has stayed with me.
At 27 I have only been to a handful of "New Age" shops. I can truly say that I have only enjoyed myself a couple of times. My favorite one went out of business within a year of opening. So that brings me back to scrounging.
Most of my tools I have bought off of Ebay or bought at Target during Halloween. Heck, I even bought stuff from the dollar store.
So to hear someone say that there is no way to get ritual tools in their town, I say, go to your local Walmart. Look with your Witchy Eyes, or let your Higher Power guide you. Trust me, the tools are there.
Another thing you can do is make your own ritual items. One of my favorite Tarot decks is one that I made. It is filled with my energy, printed off my inkjet printer. Another is my ritual jewelry. I love beading. It's very calming, as long as you lock your cat out of the room.
